Sanofi CMC/Process Development is implementing a comprehensive Digital Transformation program to improve our productivity and reduce our development timelines. We are deploying a standardized digital workflow across our development sites globally (target: 2,000 users) and building automated data access to ensure scientists can document, visualize, and analyze their experimental work. We will discuss the progress, successes, and pain points encountered by the development teams as we progress towards our digital ambition.

Christian Airiau is the Head of Data Science in Sanofi, R&D in Biologics Development, based in the Boston Area. He has over 16 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry, working on Data Science, Process Modeling and Process Analytical Technologies (PAT). His remit is to drive alignment across the global Sanofi network to develop Data Science, Process optimization and process control in Biologics Development. Introducing cutting edge Advanced Analytics concepts and leveraging established methodologies to accelerate Process development and strengthen Control Strategy definition. Christian is also the Advanced Analytics lead in the CMC Digital Transformation program in Sanofi, across small and large molecules. He’s trained as Chemist, he holds a Master and PhD in Data Science / Chemometrics from The University of Bristol in the UK.

Pierre hold a PhD in sciences and statistics and cumulates 15 years of experience in several areas of pharmaceutical research and industry, including assay development and validation, discovery, and drug manufacturing (CMC, from R&D to commercial). Pierre is also since 2015 Lecturer at the Université of Liège, in the School of Pharmacy, teaching Design of Experiments and Statistics. He is a USP panel member since 2018. Pierre has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, conference proceedings, and book chapters.

Arne Balzer, Life Science Informatics Consultant at Pharmalex

Arne Balzer is a Life Science Informatics Consultant with five years of experience in digital transformation projects around lab- and bioinformatics, data strategy and governance, reference and master data and semantics. He has a background in genetics and bioinformatics (Biology Master of Science) of RWTH Aachen University. He joined PharmaLex (then OSTHUS) in 2019.
